0:00What do you look for in a partner? >> I like a little bit of crazy. Um You know, uh and then you know, there's different price tags, you know, that that are associated and I, you know, Um okay, I'll be honest with you. So I decided a long time ago that the number one character trait that I wanted in a partner was loyalty.
0:26It was the number one thing. I was like, I have I have I have the the path that I want to walk, I'm going to have too many enemies. I'm going to have too many people who want to stab me behind my back, and I need someone who I don't have to look behind me to know if they're there. And so that's that is for me like that was like my number one, two, and three. And so like I would say like in our relationship I've never once doubted Leila's loyalty. Like never once. Um and I think a lot of people misunderstand Leila and I's dynamic.
0:53Like Leila is like it's funny because people like see us as like a modern-day couple or something like that. But like I feel like we are so traditional in terms of like how we like live. >> I think there's marriage and then there's business and it's it's different. >> Yeah, like our marriage relationship is super traditional. And then our business relationship is I mean I guess I don't know Yeah, modern, I guess. Yeah. Yeah, I mean we have roles in the company and we both fulfill those roles.
1:20>> Yeah. >> And like if if we had zero relationship, the way that we like if we had zero romantic relationship, the way that we work would be the same. >> Yeah, that's fair. >> Which is I mean the way we started working together. And so that like we actually learned that dynamic first. We didn't learn the the romantic side. >> Yeah. Yeah, and interesting for everybody on here is like, you know, something that we made a decision is like um when we first started the business together, we said like one of our first mentors I remember he said like act like business partners in front of your team. Like they don't need to see you guys acting all, you know, like husband and wife in front of each other.
1:54Like that makes people very uncomfortable. And so a lot of people will say when they see us in content, they're like, "Well, why aren't you guys like hugging, kissing, all together, and all this?" And it's >> We've learned >> We've learned not to do that in public. You know, we do save that for private. And so, you also just >> Also, we started We started dating when or we got married when Leila was 23, I just turned 27, or somewhere in there. Um we were kids. And so, we had like adults working for us. And like, we needed to be like extra professional. >> Yeah.
2:20>> I would say now because we're a little older, um and we have like a little bit more gravitas than we did then. Like, we can get away with a little bit more. >> I still get super weird with PDA stuff, though. >> Oh. >> I like I don't know why. It's just like I trained it into myself. >> All right. If you were a business owner, and you were not growing as fast as you'd like, I'd like to give you a free gift. So, my team and I put together the $100 million scaling roadmap, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had, and what stages of growth they went through, and more importantly, where they got stuck, and how they got past it. And so, we broke it in these 10 stages, and we made this little kind of quiz thing, where if you put in your business information, it'll tell you where you're at, and the most important part for you, what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources, and finance. And so, no matter what you're struggling with, someone else has already struggled with it and solved it. And so, I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisition.com/roadmap, plug in your business information, and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business, and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page, you can book a call with my team, and we will look at your business, see if we can help, and if we can, we'll invite you out to Vegas, and we'll do this in person, live.
