0:00Have you ever seen those little towel signs at hotels that say, "Please recycle your towels?" Well, a researcher changed that sign to "Other guests in this room also recycle their towels. Please recycle your towels." And they got 26% more people to recycle them. Now, here's why this is interesting. Colleen Shot took that exact same psychology, and she was able to use it to sell a record amount of NordicTrack. What she did was she switched the language from "Operator standing by, please call" to "If operators are busy, hang up and call again." And by doing that, she created implied scarcity.
0:28Implied scarcity means that there's a limited amount of a certain thing. Social proof and a herd mentality all within a one single statement. And so, when you're looking at trying to get people to do something, the easiest way to do it is to show them that other people just like them are doing that same thing, and that they have to act quickly, otherwise they'll lose out. And so, that's what she was able to harness, and you should do it, too.
