0:00in NYC. What's your perspective on the upcoming AI revolution? What would you say to someone starting their career when all experts predict AI will replace them in 4 years? I can't imagine an AI won't be better at cold calling than the average sales person in about three. I know there's you're not dead, keep working, of course. But what would you say to your child being born in this increasingly strange and unrecognizable world? How can we adapt and overcome our replacement? Um So, in the short term, there are more jobs in the AI rich companies in the non-AI companies in terms of job growth.

0:32So, if we're just looking at facts, that's what it is right now. So, that's kind of interesting as a counterpoint. Um beyond that for my own right son that's coming, I'm going to do the only thing I can do, which is I'm going to equip him with as many skills as I possibly can so he can navigate the world to get what he wants out of it. Um and not just out of the world, but just out of life. And so, I I would probably give the exact same advice to myself and I'd give the same advice to you, which is that like um keep learning more than anything else.

1:00Like you will never be worse off from knowing more. You will never be less capable in a given situation by being more capable. And so, if we just So, in game theory, the most flexible player wins, right? Same thing with the Darwin, right? It's the It's the adaptability, which is the thing that allows you to win. And so, adaptability comes from being able to succeed in different conditions and different environments. And so, part of being able to succeed in different conditions and environments is your ability to learn, which is a function of intelligence, which is how quickly can you change your behavior.

1:34And so, if you see this big threat, and you let's say you're a cold caller, then yeah, maybe you might have want to learn other skills along the way. That makes sense. Um but the idea that there's not going to be any jobs like in the near term, I don't know if I you know, the data suggests you know, the opposite of that. And like I said earlier, the the biggest frontier companies have, you know, 5,000 plus employees. And so, like it seems like they still need some humans. Um and I would say that this is probably a relatively contrarian take, and especially as a company that uses a lot of AI.

2:03Um I have felt, and maybe you agree with me, but like AI feels like it has hit some sort of asymptote, where it takes a huge amount of energy to make very small and incremental improvements. I can't really tell you a gigantic difference between like, you know, I think when GPT went from three to four, that was a monster difference. From four to five, it was significantly smaller difference in my opinion. And there's some models right now that we run that are still four, cuz we think it's better and faster. And it just like it actually sounds less AI sloppy.

2:30And so, I think uh there's a French AI guy who talks about this, but basically the way that we're currently training AI has diminishing returns. And until we can get AI to train in the real world with real-time feedback loops, just training on more data is not actually the solution to getting it to be smarter, because I think all of us have seen the AI slop of the internet, um and been like, well, this isn't that good. Uh and so, there's there's some room, right? Um that being said, I'll tell you more importantly probably what not to do, which is to don't hide.

3:02Don't bury your head in the sand and hope for it all to go away. Don't live in fear. Ask yourself, "What can I do to best equip myself to succeed in an environment where the conditions change?" And that's going to be learning skills, and that has not changed. And it would just be what skills are you learning, which will probably be AI adjacent skills, so you can learn it. Just like, you know, years ago when, you know, Word and Excel and Zoom and these tools came in the beginning, it was like, "Oh yeah, I'm proficient with Word." No one really says that anymore, cuz it's assumed. And I think to the same degree, learning how to use AI right now is a newer skill, but in time it will be something that everyone is doing, because they'll have lowered the barrier to getting into it.

3:41If you're a business owner, and you are not growing as fast as you'd like, I'd like to give you a free gift. So, my team and I put together the $100 million scaling roadmap, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had and what stages of growth they went through and more importantly where they got stuck and how they got past it. And so we broke it into these 10 stages and we made this little kind of quiz thing where if you put in your business information it'll tell you where you're at and the most important part for you what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources and finance. And so no matter what you're struggling with someone else has already struggled with it and solved it. And so I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisition.com/roadmap, plug in your business information and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page you can book a call with my team and we will look at the business, see if we can help and if we can we'll invite you out to Vegas and we'll do this in person live.
