0:00When you have the friends who are telling [music] you, "You think you're better than us." or "Oh, so we can't drink anymore." That's when you can be like, "Yeah." >> [music] >> Then what? Well, then we wouldn't be friends. You're not going to be friends with them eventually anyways, I promise you. >> [music] >> Anyone who says that to you, you're not going to be friends with. If you want to ultimately become the person you want to become, they're only going to reject you harder and harder until eventually you have nothing [music] to share about. And the only thing that you'll talk about is the past, which a great way to know when to cut a friend is when they only talk [music] about your past. It's one of those really uncomfortable things the first time you do it, but then you get more and more comfortable with it because [music] they're "I would never live your life." And you're like, "I know."
0:36That knowing feeling that you've outgrown your social circles isn't loneliness. >> [music] >> It's your ambition finally speaking louder than your need to belong. And the hardest part about quitting your current path is explaining your decision to people [music] still walking down that path who deemed it good enough. It takes everyone a different amount of time to realize your [music] friends, family, and spouses realistic advice was just their own fear masquerading as reality. And you don't need to make the same tradeoffs [music] they decided were worth it. Different goals, different paths.
1:05>> If your friends don't have goals, your goal should be to get new friends. If I feel like you're anything but stoked [music] when I win, I don't need you. Friends root for you to win and make you better. Enemies tell you to put your goals on hold and secretly hope for you to lose. The people who are in your life, do they increase or decrease the likelihood you achieve your goals? If these answers decrease, >> [music] >> when you have two or three or four of those, you've got three or four people that are decreasing likelihood you achieve your goal. That adds up. Now, on the flip side, if you have most people that increase likelihood you achieve your goals, what do you think [music] happens?
1:34You rise up. And so, if someone calls themselves a friend but acts like an enemy, treat them like one.
