0:00Lea hor mosy I'm really thankful I first met in 2018 at a private Mastermind in La now back then I was running a coaching company that I sold just a bit over a year ago and in this episode I'm sharing with you today what we covered when I went over to Lila and Alex's home cuz I really wanted to talk to them about what really matters like what really matters when it actually comes to building a successful business and there is some real gold in this episode so I'm really appreciative for Lea actually sharing with you what we've got for you [Music] today who is Leila and what one experience that has shaped you to who the woman is right now who is Ila and what has shaped me into the woman I am right now um it's actually really funny because I don't identify with anything um with being anyone and I think that that has been like probably the number one advantage uh for me in the terms of if I look back in my life 10 years ago I was overweight I was broke I was unhappy um and that was an identity and I realized that in order to progress in your life and to get the things that you want you have to consistently become a different person and so then I realized that even if I were to identify with a positive identity then still it limits you from other things that you could have in life right because you're like well the kind of person that does this doesn't have these things or is excluded from this or that and so I always identified with like I'm not going to label myself I'm not going to say who I am because I want that to constantly be changing um and that's allowed me to feel really like a sense of Freedom like I can wear what I want I can eat what I want I can do what I want I can have whatever business I want you know I think a lot of people like they feel loss because they lose something in life that's attached to the identity and so like people say well what would you do if you this business you know went to crap and I'm like start a different one like that's fine or like what if you lost your job it's like I'll get a different job and I can be corporate Lea or I could be trainer Lea or I could be entrepreneur Ila like I can be whatever I want because someone else in the world has and so I think for me it's really actually separating from having an identity and realizing that as a human the only thing you can do is consistently adapt and so identifying with just being adaptable and coachable and um having a consistent hunger to grow how do you help somebody um change the story of themselves a lot of people obviously they they're boxed in they label themselves and therefore they continue down this route the whole time they probably have a sun cost fallacy as well as they go through it how do you help someone Break Free of that okay so how do you help someone Break Free of the story that they're telling themselves um I would say that in order to break the story that you're telling yourself that's holding you back you have to identify where the story originated so for me that's taken a lot of U self work in terms of like why am I the way I am and then it's looking back often times it's at your childhood right because I think for everyone that's really what shapes you and a lot of times you hear people ask I had a horrible childhood well I think most people have had a horrible childhood because when you're a child you don't have coping mechanisms right and so it's not like you even know how to cope because you're a kid and you haven't been equipped with those you're not smart enough to understand and you're emotional not logical um and so I think it's looking at what you went through in the ages of development right up to you know late te and saying like what shaped me as a person as I am today and then really like working through those experiences like how did I perceive those experiences then and then what would I perceive those as now like if I were to go through the same things now that I did then probably wouldn't be that traumatic yet I've learned to cope with those things in a way that has now negatively affected how I look at myself um so one would be you know someone has a boyfriend break up with them and then they start overeating for example and that is how they cope with their stresses reading and so then they identify with being an overweight woman who has to overeat every time something's stressful well why do you do that because you had something happen and then you decided to cope with it by using food it's a very common way to do it right and so then it's realizing it's not like you are that person it's that you very long ago learned how to cope with stress in this manner and really looking at it as like an action rather than a characteristic and saying okay I have to just change this action that I'm taking to cope with stressful situation in order to become a new person and so then rather than looking at it as um outcome driven like who I am versus who I need to be it's what do I need to do and so looking at like what are the behaviors that Leila who doesn't cope with stress with food would exhibit okay well let me identify and research and uh you know I would say um you know follow people who have what I want right well how do they cope with stress do they Journal do they meditate do they work out whatever it is is and then you know you have to go through the process of um exhibiting some level of self-control so that you can figure out okay and I think a lot of the self-control really comes from keeping those for for Forefront of mind so like um when I would work with women that were trying to lose weight and they had that as their emotional coping mechanism it's like well how can we keep it front of mind every day so that you remember why you're changing that behavior because it's not like people can't change behaviors that they forget why they're changing the behavior and then they get so wrapped up in the dayto they can't do it and so it's identifying that and then doing something to keep it Forefront of mind every day so that you can consistently over time evolve your identity and I think you can usually look back and like for myself I can change a behavior within 30 to 60 days and it's just doing that every day and then suddenly 60 90 days later you're a different person just by doing small things every day right sick okay perfect answer um let's go through the up and the down what's the lowest low you've ever been through and how you get through it um I would say that the lowest low I've ever been through um in terms of okay would that be like childhood or like adulthood whatever you want whatever you feel like as something that shaped who you are and something that you know others will relate to mhm I would say that the lowest low I ever went through was actually um when I was about 19 which was probably not the hardest time of my life but it was a time where I had um I think sometimes the second fall is the worst for people like you've changed yourself in some Manner and you've gained some success and then you slip back and then you feel worse about yourself because you know you could do better and that happened when I was about 19 and I really slipped into drinking doing drugs I got arrested six times in 18 months and I just felt like [ __ ] about myself I felt horrible and I knew I could be better because I had been better for say six years prior to that and how I changed myself was really um I think it's confronting the The Ugly Truth like if you look at how you have to change a business it's the same as a person which is you have to confront the brutal facts right which is like the brutal fact is I'm fat I'm a drunk and I'm getting arrested all the time I'm a piece of [ __ ] like there's no I'm not sugar coat it like I'm a fat girl I'm a drug or Drinker like I'm not like an ideal partner for anybody and so like and I'm not going anywhere in life and it's really like confronting that with yourself instead of I think we have this movement now we're just like you talk positively about yourself and it's like I just don't think that's like but if that's not the truth you shouldn't talk positively because that's not what you are and until you confront what you are you can't really change and so for me it was looking in the mirror and being like wow I look like crap I never want to feel this way again and then I accepted that and I was like but I can do something about it right and then seeking help from there honestly it's been coaches and mentors my entire life like I I pride myself on the fact that I can be like the number one client for anybody because I will do exactly what they tell me to do because I'm very driven internally to reach the goal because I confront the brutal facts so I confront the brutal facts find a mentor or a coach and then do everything they say everything they say isn't always going to be 100% right for you but you'll learn enough along the way that you can tweak it for yourself I love this how do you find the mentor that is right for you and for what it is that you want how do you find the mentor that's right for you um I would honestly say that you just continue to try um I think a lot of people say that they try finding mentors and coaches and they really try one or two and then they're like oh well that didn't work or whatever so I'm just going to throw them to the side and a lot of times it's not that there's anything wrong with the mentor or coach it's that you also might not know how to be a good client right you might not be ready to work with that person um and so it's kind of twofold which is one you have to continue to look I think that for every five mentors or coaches that I've started with um I've got one out of five that will end up being someone I'll stick with for you know years's duration and that end up being really impactful in my life and the second part of it is remembering what does it take to be a good client what kind of communication do you have to give to them how much feedback are you giving them are you telling them how you really feel and what you really want and need um and I think that that's a huge part of it is what am I doing to be a good client so they can be a good coach for me God you got good answers Lea okay awesome um why do you think people don't achieve what it is that they say that they want to achieve I think people don't achieve what they say they want to achieve because they truly don't want to achieve it they would rather have something else more so you say you want to lose weight but what you actually really want more is to eat that cake right now right and you're proving that with your actions and so it's like I think that it's taken me years actually to really see that I I do not believe what people say at all anymore I'm like words are wishes actions are truth and so you only show what you're willing what you really want through your actions so if like you really wanted it you'd be doing it already right but instead you want this other thing more so it's like well how can you have to kind of really think through it like well why do I want that thing more and then how can I manipulate myself into wanting the thing that's good for me more right I love how you said manipulate because that's exactly what it is um highest high what's like and I asked this this is like the return of the elixa this is like I I asked this because I want you to bend mold break create hates the beliefs of The Watcher right now do you know I mean what's what's the best of the best what's going on in your life right now that you absolutely love why are you laughing I'm curious to I don't yeah he knows because I don't get excited about anything that's why he's saying nothing you exced I think that for me the most exciting thing has been being able to um like the highest high that I've ever had has been it was probably actually when we made our first $100,000 um because it was years and years of like up and down and like broke and money and broke it and then finally it was like $100,000 and it's never gone lower than that since right and then it continued to go up um and then in that I think really the the proudest thing that I have is being able to build you know a $50 million company but one that has 85 full-time employees and 50 contractors who freaking love working there and like for me I'm like I see a lot of people can build a business but can you build a business that creates other leaders that creates other people that would work just as hard for it as you do and I think like to date the proudest thing that the thing I'm proudest of is I have chills while I'm saying it is how dedicate our team is like seeing them sacrifice and actually want to work weekends and want to be working at all points in time because they're so Mission driven and they're so value driven on the same page as Alex and I in the business um and watching them grow as people it's the coolest thing where like you see someone that starts out you know as a sales rep and then now they're director in a company that's something that's so hard to do is to it's hard enough as an entrepreneur to go from like working for yourself having a few employees having 20 employees having 50 but taking someone else who's not the entrepreneur to go through that same Journey who might not have the same level of motivation or incentive is really cool um so that that for me is what gets me really excited is seeing the growth of the people inside the company have you subscribed if not this is the best time for you to subscribe whether you're on the YouTube or on the podcast why because it would be a bummer if you missed out on everything that's to come or don't subscribe if you're not actually getting much value out of this because there is a zillion other things that you could be doing so I'd rather you go and do that the balls in your court I love this what's the what are the principles or the things that you see that yourself and other successful people do I think that the number one um so something I really like is John Wooden talks about the principles of success and the second tier is probably my favorite which is alertness um self-control intentness and they really all resolve around discipline and so it's the discipline in the details it's the discipline to do the really hard work and not the hard work that takes time but if you look at people who are successful they do the hard work that takes emotional energy it's like this is hard I don't want to do it it's going to take emotional effort for me to do it it's not checking off a list and you know writing emails taking tasks like that um and then really it all resolves around the discipline and the self-control and I think for me I know that having self-control makes everything go round and round so it's like having a self-control to go to bed on time having the self-control to eat the foods that I know I should be eating to fuel myself if I don't do those things then how can I show up well for my team how can I deliver the best results for our clients like I can't do any of that if don't start with personal self-control and so I think a lot of it is discipline and self-control um and mastering those two things because I think in life like everything can change in business and everything can change in life but your control over yourself is always something that you have control over and how you respond to any given situation and so um going hand inand with that I would say it's not just self-control and discipline but it's emotional discipline and emotional control so having control over the emotions because most people don't their businesses don't fail they quit right um or their job you know didn't get too hard it's that they didn't acclimate to the level of hard needed to be successful in the job because they weren't able to expand their emotional capacity to deal with the level of stress and instead they say the job drove me to drink the company drove me to drink the company ruined my mar no it didn't you did because you didn't learn how to manage that and build your life in accordance [ __ ] brilliant I really good um uh talk about the health and fitness world what's the what are the trends that you're seeing in the health and fitness world now what let me say it another way what was working before that doesn't work now mhm so I think that what was working before that's not working now in the health and fitness world is um I think that the new way right is for a long time because there's been the expansion of Facebook and Instagram and all the platforms you didn't have to focus a ton on delivery and so you focused a lot on marketing and promotion and that's incredibly important but it's looking at the entire customer experience in terms of how Are you delivering on the promotion and does the promotion align with the sales process align with a customer delivery right and so I think a lot of this revolves around most people think they have a marketing problem um in health and fitness right now because lead cost is higher you know there's less leads coming Etc but it's not it's because you have a retention issue and you have a sales issue right you're not monetizing enough on the front end and you're not delivering enough on the back end and things are getting easier there's too there's more competition out there if you're not relationship oriented and you're not able to scale relationships within your organization like scaling yourself so that you have other people on your team who can deliver then you're going to get I think honestly bought out of the market what do you think's like the secret source of creating a successful Fitness business I think the secret sauce to creating a successful Fitness business is authenticity um I really think it is I think it's being authentic with your customers I think that um an interesting story would be like a thread that we had in our uh client group which was like why is it that I just everything that Alex says um I listen to and I just believe him every time and everyone went down and they're like why is it different with him why is it different with him and it all came down to like they all start saying they're like cuz I know he cares they're like I just know he cares so I trust him and I know he cares and I know he cares I know he and it was like hundreds of comments about how he just cares and so I think it's you have to actually care about the client I think a lot of people get into the health and fitness space because they're like oh it looks like easy money it's a huge opportunity right now it's like well if you don't actually give a crap it's not going to work because you're not going to get to the hard times and your clients are going to know you don't care and your employees are going to know you don't care and so they're not going to work that hard for your clients if you won't M okay this is good um what's the belief that you want to break that sitting in the mind of let's say people come to G on what's the belief that you want to great so you know that they're going to succeed the belief I would want to break um for someone coming into like our business or any other business so they could succeed is that there is no special sauce to being successful and I think that like for example um I had the belief that like I didn't come from a good school I didn't get the best grades I also wasn't entrepreneurial like I didn't really have anything great I was like medium like normal Midwest fine grades whatever um but I learned that I could outwork anyone and so that was what I had was effort and everyone has That's The Equalizer right is effort across the board and so it doesn't matter how smart you are or anything like that it matters your level of determination effort and I think a lot of the times people expect an extraordinary result but they give ordinary effort right it's like ordinary effort isn't going to give you an extraordinary result and inconsistent effort won't give you an extraordinary result you have control over being consistent and overd delivering and putting in immense amount of effort and I think that people just look at like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg and they're like there's no way I could do that and I'm like well actually you could because if you were a charismatic person who could find those people to help you build a business you could do something like that right you can do whatever you want to do and so I think it comes down to like eliminating the facade that success is only for the elite the smart the X Y and Z it's like things are so accessible in the world nowadays that anyone can be successful if they're willing to do the work to acquire the skills what does success feel like to you success to me feels like going to bed every night knowing that I gave my all to that day mentally physically emotionally so like feeling that I woke up being like this is the kind of wife I'm going to be this is the kind of CEO I'm going to be this is the kind of um leader I'm going to be and then I actually exemplify those things that day so like I know that every task I do whether it be like four tasks or 15 tasks I did to the best of my abilities with the energy given that day and so I brought my best self to each of those if I go to bed at night knowing that then I feel like that was a successful day you're fire we don't need I'll take my socks off what's the what's one thing wanted someone to walk away and do now after being exposed to you and being spending time with you here one thing that I would want someone to walk away with and take action on is just do [ __ ] anything like honestly do anything take action I think too often people are paralyzed by the fear but the reality is like for every 10 attempts um that I make or we make in our business to do something successfully we fail nine of those times still people are like you're a $50 million business I'm sure you're always success no we're not in fact it feels horrible 90% of the time because we fail 90% of the time but the 10% of the time you don't fail It's amazing And there's huge upside and so I would tell someone like be prepared to walk out and go try 10 more things and know that one of them will work but you have to get back up and try the next thing and you can't fool yourself and just try two or three cuz that's not going to work you have to try nine 10 11 12 you know whatever the the light bulb thing with thas he tried I don't even know how many times but it's like that's the truth it just takes it's reps it's how many reps can you get in so go start now like Go fail right now and like you'll suck less than a week and you'll suck even less two weeks from then and eventually you'll suck so little you'll be like good and then one day you're great and then one day you're amazing but it's like if you don't start then you're always going to suck okay I love this um uh last one why should someone join gym launch why should someone join gym launch because there is no other company that is as Innovative as we are um I think that for the most part what we realized when we got into the space was we were kind of resistant to get in the space but it felt like there's nobody helping our people to do what we're doing everyone's like stuck in what worked 3 years ago or two years ago and the market changes so quickly we look at it like we are pioneering the way for these gyms and they're I mean I know what it's like to be in a gym and as does Alex and so it's like you don't have the time to keep up with all the trends of everything that's happening in the marketplace and so instead we're like we will do it for you and Forge this movement and so we have the power of the Thousand gym Lords that we have and all the data that they have to forge the way forward and we have the resources to help you do it and so I would say join it so you're not alone so you know what's coming next and so you can future proof your business love it sick if you've enjoyed this episode and it's vibed with you then make sure that you hit subscribe
