0:00We are we just finished a season of violence for like straight 2 years. We did join Jim Launch. I don't know if you got my note. >> [laughter] >> Rock and roll. So, we we are scaling super super fast and I just wanted to know it's a little bit different of a question. When do you decide to take seasons of rest? Like when do you when do you indicate just to keep going of like okay, my output is different. I need to like stop for a second. Like when do you decide that?
0:27Yeah, my my views on this have continued to evolve over time. I can tell you where I'm at right now. Um, I think this year I've taken 11 days off. Um, since the beginning. And so, I say that also to um, I just like I just don't see like Elon Musk in Maui for like a week. You know what I mean? Um, on the flip side you can see Bezos is doing that, but he's doing that now.
0:53I don't know if he did that during the 35 years that he was, you know, growing Amazon. And so, I think that the the biggest thing that I will I can I can give is actually like more tactical advice is like listen to no one. If you want to keep working, keep working. Like Leila and I were going to do a 2-day trip. And we canceled on the sec on the first day to come back that day rather than the next day. And it was both like we were at this really nice resort and I was like this is beautiful and I don't care.
1:26And and the thing like and there's a lot of time where I like I like I like judge my like I I continue to peel back like what are the things that I I think other people expect of me that I I don't expect of me, that I'm only doing because I'm I think I'm supposed to do. And so for me like I I recharge with very dark rooms with low stimuli. And so it's like I'll listen to an audiobook on a lazy boy staring out at the city and that's like what I will do to recharge or I will watch Netflix in a dark room that's quiet. Like and have a pizza. Like that's how I recharge, but that doesn't take a season for me. That takes like 3 hours.
2:01And so, um, I just have a theory that you can get significantly more output by not taking days off and working less per day. So, it's like if you can work like I can work 12s pretty consistently. Like that doesn't bug me too much. Like 6 to 6 is just not a very hard schedule for me. And so, I can work 6 to 6 basically, you know, 7 days a week. Maybe on Sunday I'll stop at 4:00. And that's fine for me. And I think that your ability to work just like cuz if you were in Jim Launch, then you're in fitness. Um, I think your work capacity also expands.
2:35Like your your fatigue, your fatigue accumulation, I think can go down. Your ability to stay focused for extended periods of time goes down or goes up. Um, and so I think that at least for me the way that I've continued to be able to actually get more like I work more now than I did at Jim Launch. Um, but I think I have more energy than I did then even though I was younger then. And so I think um, I would just not listen to anyone and I don't know if I really believe in like seasons of of of of rest. I think I have more believe in like I'm tired and so I will sleep.
3:08And then I will sleep until I'm not tired. And I think that's that's at least how I've approached it, which I think is not how most people do, but I don't really want most people's lives. If you are a business owner and you are not growing as fast as you like, I'd like to give you a free gift. So, my team and I put together the $100 million scaling road map, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had and what stages of growth they went through and more importantly where they got stuck and how they got past it. And so we broke it in these 10 stages and we made this little kind of quiz thing where if you put in your business information, it'll tell you where you're at and the most important part for you, what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources, and finance. And so, no matter what you're struggling with, someone else has already struggled with it and solved it. And so I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisition.com/roadmap, plug in your business information and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page you can book a call with my team and we will look at the business, see if we can help and if we can, we'll invite you out to Vegas and we'll do this in person live.
