Was du mitnimmst

0:00I am a dentist. Our dental practice does about $20 million a year. And I want to be you. I want >> [laughter] >> the the Jim Launch version, but in dentistry. So, what we want to be able to do >> Ed knows that joke. Sorry, keep going. >> Okay, so what we want to be able to do is invest in other dental practices and help them grow and flip them and get in, get out. So, the way that we thought that we would have warm leads is through social media.

0:36So, what is stopping me is I'm trying to build a team that can pretty much take our content and put it in front of the right dentist that >> So, how many how many offices do you have right now? >> Three. >> So, you have three offices, you're doing 20. Are you doing cosmetic and >> It's pretty much general dentistry, but yeah, it's got some cosmetic and it's got, you know, some of the bigger cases, but

1:01>> So, you've got those three, six or seven million each. Cool. You want to do the Jim Launch of dentistry. What goal are you optimizing for? >> I would say the the goal overall would be to go from 20 million to say 35 million. Although, it'll be different businesses. So, you know, if we're able to you know, take and start you know, cuz I don't really want to like hang on to these practices. I just want to grow and then get out.

1:28>> You mean sell them out? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I just want to invest in them. I don't want to actually purchase the whole thing. >> Why? >> Speed. What we're thinking is because of licensing and everything between the states and stuff, it kind of limits us to local if we're going to buy the whole thing versus if we just get in there and help the dentist grow their practice. I just don't want to be paid as like a consultant. I'd rather be invested in the practice and then you can either sell it back to them if they're not looking to retire or there's an aging population of dentists that have kind of ridden their practices down into retirement. And they don't really have anybody to sell it to. Their Their practices aren't profitable enough to support a younger generation and they're not really you know, uh corporate dentistry is not interested in them because they're not automated.

2:16>> So what stops you from just like opening two more practices? >> Nothing stops you from opening two more practices. >> like that would be so much better. Like this is an entirely new business. I I think the model that what that you're describing will not be fun. I'm telling you it will not be fun. Um because you will want control and they will not execute and you will hate life.

2:43And then you will pay money in and then you'll be like keep the money, please go away. Um I'm just telling you what's going to happen. Like it like there's a reason that everyone who gets into it buys majority control and it's because they suck at If they were you, they would be you and they're not you. So they're not going to magically become you. >> Right. >> So you already have a team You like you were actually at What's interesting is like you're right at the point where your business is about to get fun and then you're you're doing something different because right now you're finally like above, right? With three you've got like team in place and so it's like to me this is like when it got easy is when you need to go hard rather than when you need to do different. So it's like why like why not just say like, "Okay, let's go to 35 million to use your numbers.

3:27We'll open up two locations this year and we'll be there." >> Okay. >> Cuz like that will be a significantly more valuable enterprise than selling one-offs and they'll definitely not going to buy it back from you for more money than you bought in for cuz they'll hate you. >> Wait. >> [laughter] >> What we were thinking was as we >> help you grow and then I'm going to to get blood money from you Yeah. cuz you couldn't afford it. You couldn't afford to pay me back and now I've made you this money and now you just give it to me all It's like it's It works in here. I don't think it'll work out here.

3:58>> Out there. >> Yeah. >> What about if we targeted the dentists that are looking to retire within a year or two and tried to help them basically cuz we we could probably take them and just put them on the side. >> Why don't you just like buy their practices for nothing? >> Well, that that that's an option, too. >> I've Yeah, that's >> It makes it a little bit more local just because, you know, we because of licensing, but

4:26>> What about the licensing thing? >> So, you when you're a dentist, you're licensed to practice in states, and so, you know, if if you're going to go and buy practices, then you got to go through the whole licensing thing, which is I do. >> Couldn't you get a dentist that has a license in that state? >> Could, but then you're a little bit like they kind of got you by the balls. >> [laughter] >> I mean, how many dentists do you have per per location?

4:52>> Uh three or four. >> Okay. So, I mean, it's hard for four people to have you by the balls. It'd be a lot of hands. >> Yeah, yeah. A smaller practice would only have one one dentist, yeah. Big balls. >> [laughter] >> Yeah. But you know what I'm saying? Like it's it's it's it's easy to have a mutiny when there's one, hard when there's four. >> Right. Yeah. >> So, I think I think I mean, if I were you, >> Yeah. >> one is I would probably continue to expand locally. That would be my first thing.

5:17And there's probably an old dentist in your area without needing to do the other expansion stuff. And a very clean exit is like I own this whole market. That's a great exit. Um alternatively, you can just go to the adjacent market or whatever and and build up from there. That'll test your chops in terms of your ability to execute. I don't think in any way it'll be harder than what you're you were talking about before. >> Yeah. >> You'll have a high likelihood of success with this, and you'll get way better returns. >> Got you. >> Yeah.

5:43>> Cool. >> Are you working with us after this? >> No. >> Oh, well, I was like we can show you hold on to stuff for you. >> Yeah. Okay. Thank you. >> If you are a business owner and you are not growing as fast as you like, I'd like to give you a free gift. So, my team and I put together the $100 scaling roadmap, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had and what stages of growth they went through and more importantly where they got stuck and how they got past it. And so we broke it in these 10 stages and we made this little kind of quiz thing where if you put in your business information it'll tell you where you're at and the most important part for you what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources and finance. And so, no matter what you're struggling with, someone else has already struggled with it and solved it.

6:28And so I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisition.com/roadmap, plug in your business information and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page you can just book a call with my team and we will look at the business, see if we can help and if we can we'll invite you out to Vegas and we'll do this in person live.
