0:00Is the character of a successful seller a scammy one? I've been coming up with ideas to upsell clients and some of my smartest ideas feel scammy. It's like I keep finding ways to increase my margin by selling clients solutions to imaginary problems. Okay, so I think we have to define a scam. So a scam I think is just something that is deceptive in nature, which is that you promise something that you do not deliver. Um, and so fundamentally that's it. And so I think to some degree a lot of things are scammy because they promise things they don't deliver. Uh, which is why the first rule of marketing for us has always been state the facts and tell the truth. And if the if the facts and the truth are not compelling, we need to change reality. We need to change We need You know, what I'm not saying here is uh, that you're you're you're duking your stats. I'm saying that you work harder and making the thing better so that the stats and the facts are compelling and then you go advertise it and you let everybody know about it. And so, um, coming up with ideas to upsell clients some like like Yeah, I think it just comes down to that. Like state the facts and the truth. If you're going to help somebody and you know how to help them, tell them you're going to be able to help them.

0:59And as long as you don't promise anything you can't do, you're fine. That's really it. So, and I'll say this. This I think this is actually relatively important. You have to make a decision at some point in your career whether you're going to pay more mind to the people who you want to help or the people who hate on you for trying to help. Every person who's an entrepreneur has to make that decision at some point because people will hate you no matter what you do. If you do nothing, they will [ __ ] on you for doing nothing. If you do something, they will [ __ ] on you for how you did it.

1:34And why do we do this? Because we gain relative status by putting other people down. Evolutionary. And so, I mean, I obviously don't subscribe to that. You've never seen me talk negatively about anyone on my channel on any platform. And I do that because I think there's enough negativity in the world we don't need any more. That being said, um, you still have to be able to weather that storm. And so, if you can decide, I will choose to help this customer and I will do it in a way that might seem cringe or might seem odd or might seem weird to me because I think somebody else is going to make a comment in my mind about how I'm doing things, [ __ ] them.

2:07They don't care about you anyways. And they only feel that way because you remind them of the risk they were unwilling to take for themselves to get what they truly wanted. And as a result, they have a life that is inferior based fully on the things that are mediocre that they never wanted to begin with but settled for out of convenience. But you don't want their life, so why would you listen to their opinions? If you are business owner and you are not growing as fast as you'd like, I'd like to give you a free gift. So, my team and I put together the $100 million scaling roadmap, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had and what stages of growth they went through and more importantly, where they got stuck and how they got past it. And so we broke it into these 10 stages and we made this little kind of quiz thing where if you put in your business information, it'll tell you where you're at and the most important part for you, what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources, and finance. And so, no matter what you're struggling with, someone else has already struggled with it and solved it. And so I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisitions.com/roadmap, plug in your business information, and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page, you can book a call with my team and we will look at the business, see if we can help, and if we can, we'll invite you out to Vegas and we'll do this in person live.
