Take your shot

Alex argues most people get their life's midpoint wrong: with a median US lifespan near 74 to 78, midpoint hits around 37 to 39, not 50, and adjusting for how time feels faster as you age, it's closer to 20 or 21.

0:00Three out of 10,000 people live to a hundred. All right? And so people get to age 50 and think, "Oh, that's going to be my halfway point." It's like, "But you're way past the halfway point." The median lifespan in the US, at least the last time I checked, was 74. Maybe it's 78. But that means your middle age around 37 or 39, not 50. And here's [music] the real kicker is that if you adjust for our decreased perception of time as we go, most of us remember when you're 5 years old, a year takes forever. When you're when you're 30, it takes less time than that. And I would imagine when you talk to 80-year-olds, they're like, "It takes even less time than that." And so when you account for the perception of time, you're actually at your midpoint around 20 to 21.
