0:00I'm a wedding photographer, bad at delegating photo editing. Tried before, hated results. Redid almost all. How can I learn to trust the people I hire, such as editors? >> Okay, so first let's just define trust. So trust is basically you have a history of of positive reinforcement with a person. So for example, when we started the this this whole thing with that, if you got something and then did a good job with it, I would trust you more than if somebody hasn't done anything or got something and a bad thing happened, right? And so if what you're asking for is how do I trust someone, which is how do I give them the opportunity to earn my trust, meaning how do I give them the opportunity to do a good thing? So we want to maximize the likelihood of success. And so in it's most likely that you've been giving people tasks with a very small likelihood of success because you haven't give maximized the conditions around them so that they can win, so that you could feel good about yourself, so that you could say that somehow only you can do it because you are a special snowflake, but I promise you you are not a special snowflake because you learned everything you learned as a human, which means other people can learn it, too. And if you are good at teaching, you can teach them that skill as well and you can maximize the environment around them to increase the likelihood that they're also going to be successful, too. And so this means that you need to train better, you need to train more robustly, and likely you are not you are explaining and not giving them trial attempts. Meaning you need to say, "If this, then that." So do this thing and then have this outcome happen and then giving them feedback in real time. If you give feedback to people enough times, they will understand how to do it and then you will trust them more because you have evidence that they can do it.

1:34And so I think what if I were to translate what you asked into what I think actually is happening is how do I get people to do exactly what I want without giving them any instructions? And the answer there is you don't. You're asking them to guess and then somehow get it right. I think that was the issue. Hope that helped.
