Key takeaways
- Well, I think the last part of your question is actually the most important one, which is are you repeating the same mistakes or are you generalizing starting or trying a business in general as a mistake?
- So, said differently, if I hire a salesperson and the salesperson doesn't work out, do I learn the lesson that sales people don't work?
- Or do I learn the lesson that I do not know how to pick, hire, manage, train, and maintain a productive salesperson?
- If you take the second or the third, excuse me, the third uh solution, which is that I do not know how to XYZ that creates this outcome, that is something that is under your control.

0:00Hi Alex. I've tried a few things and failed, and now I'm honestly scared to start again. How do you know when to keep trying versus when you're just repeating the same mistakes? Well, I think the last part of your question is actually the most important one, which is are you repeating the same mistakes or are you generalizing starting or trying a business in general as a mistake? So, what we want like one of the hardest parts about making mistakes is we have to learn the correct lesson from the error.
0:26So, said differently, if I hire a salesperson and the salesperson doesn't work out, do I learn the lesson that sales people don't work? Do I learn the lesson that it all employees suck? Or do I learn the lesson that I do not know how to pick, hire, manage, train, and maintain a productive salesperson? If you extrapolated either of the first two lessons, then you probably learned the incorrect lesson from the actions you took or the error that you made. If you take the second or the third, excuse me, the third uh solution, which is that I do not know how to XYZ that creates this outcome, that is something that is under your control. And so, fundamentally, then it comes down to how to learn how to do that. It's like, well, you watch videos, you can hire help, you can have people tutor you.
1:03There's a lot of different ways you can learn stuff. Um but I think being very clear about what is missing in your business uh because when people are telling me that like my business didn't work, it's so interesting cuz like all businesses, like if you've seen a future version of the business that you have or somebody else who had the exact same business as you, then we already know the business works. So, it just means they're doing stuff that you're not doing. So, let's figure out what they're doing and then go do that. And again, we replicate before we iterate. So, don't get cute and try to make it unique until you've at least duplicated another person's level of success. At that what point, you have not earned the right to say, "Now, I can be cute. Now, I can try something cuz I've done enough of iterations that I think this might work a little better." And you'll be right or wrong. And if you're right, you'll make more money than them. And if you're wrong, you'll go backwards and then you go back to doing what you did before.
1:44And that's the game. And you basically keep doing that step until you die. If you like this video and you're business owner who wants to break through your current revenue ceiling, I just distilled every lesson from scaling 10 businesses past 10 million and three businesses past 100 million into a completely free scaling road map that I've used to go from zero to one, zero to 10, and zero to 100 plus. And so you can click here and you can check it out. Again, absolutely free. And since your business owner appreciates you, and enjoy.
