0:00Um, I'm an online fitness coaching and I'm growing more concerned about AI taking over to the point where I am constantly moving to more tangible items like selling shirts and in-person coaching. Should I be worried about AI? Okay, good question. So, here's the thing. Um, what people really want when they're hiring a coach is not the information. It is the accountability. Said differently, it is they want someone to say, "Nice job."
0:27They want the encouragement. They want the reinforcement. And this has been fun for me because I actually just, uh, for the first time in many, many, many, many, many years, um, I have a coach again, uh, for strength training because that's kind of what I'm into. And it was interesting because I've been observing my own behavior with the coach and I was like, I honestly, like I know what he's saying. I just want him to be like, "That was a badass lift." That's [laughter] like, that's all I want him to say. It's like, "Dude, you're looking strong." Like, I honestly just want the approval. Just being real. Like, one of the best in the world. Uh, I was like, I just want the approval. And so, it was a great reminder to me for consumer services and things of the like that like, it has not been about the information. You can ask AI to make you workouts right now. You can ask AI to give you a diet plan. And I'll give you a real case study for this because I think it'll be real for you.
1:08Is that there was this club called Cocoa Fit years ago that started with the premise that they were going to build these machines and people were going to get fobs and they'd scan the fob and then when they scan the fob, it would remember what the last workout was. And so, they had this whole idea that they were going to replace replace personal trainers, right? So, they were going to they were going to use that as a reason to gain their premium pricing of $200 a month without ever having any trainers. So, basically, it was this gym floor with these little screens and these machines and you scan your thing and it sells great.
1:35Except, no one came. No one cared. Because what they what they they had one fundamental assumption that was was wrong, which is that the reason people aren't in shape is because they lack information. It has never been about lack of information. It's about lack of motivation, lack of accountability, lack of reinforcing contingencies that exist in their environment so that it makes not eating the bad thing, or rather, uh, yeah, not eating the bad thing and eating the good thing, the easiest and most convenient choice.
2:02And so, to the question that you have, like, should you kill your business? No, I don't think you should. Um unless you want to. But like, there's no like one I think more businesses right now are getting killed from thinking AI is going to take over the business than businesses that are actually going to have AI take over the business in the short term. And so, the thing is is like, it's kind of the barbell. Is what what job does what job am I doing for a customer? And if you think that people are coming to you because they actually need programming, I think you're wrong.
2:31People are coming to you because they like you. They like your vibe. They think that you are an authority, and as a result, you will get them to stay motivated with their thing. And I think that happens across spaces. Right, do I think that AI is going to replace events? No. Do I think it's going to replace concerts? No. Like, there's a lot of things that exist in the real world that AI, at least in the short to medium term, is not going to replace. If you're a business owner and you're not growing as fast as you'd like, I'd like to give you a free gift.
3:03So, my team and I put together the $100 million scaling roadmap, which is basically 200 hours of us looking over all the portfolio companies we've had and what stages of growth they went through and more importantly, where they got stuck and how they got past it. And so, we broke it in these 10 stages and we made this little kind of quiz thing where if you put in your business information, it'll tell you where you're at and the most important part for you, what to do for each of functions of the business across product, marketing, sales, customer success, recruiting, IT, human resources, and finance. And so, no matter what you're struggling with, someone else has already struggled with it and solved it. And so, I'd like to give you this thing absolutely free. You can go to acquisition.com/roadmap, plug in your business information, and if you want us to actually help you deconstruct the business and you're trying to scale, we'd love to help you out. On the thank you page, you'll just book a call with my team and we will look at the business, see if we can help, and if we can, we'll invite you out to Vegas and we'll do this in person live.
