The reality is that you need to remove as much as possible because productivity occurs in a vacuum. And so if you give your brain nothing to do but boredom or the task that you need, the task that you need to accomplish becomes the most stimulating thing available for your brain to work on. And then it becomes the thing that you'll get attracted to doing. Which is why I've always been an advocate of like earplugs, blinders, no music. I just want boredom or the task to be the only choice I have. And then when that happens, you tend to do them.
